Pruning Like a Pro

This class teaches plant structure, growth cycles, effects of pruning-winter/summer, reasons to prune, tools used in pruning, care of tools, wound dressings, how to make cuts, timing and techniques for pruning various trees, fruit trees, vines, roses, perennials & grasses, berries & grapes, and shrubs. This class relies upon my forestry education and my years as an estate gardener. Instructor shares his 40+ years experience and journey in arboriculture, landscaping and nursery plant growing with enthusiasm and humor. Oregon Landscape Contractor Board approved 6 (CEH) credits.

Sustainable Landscaping Techniques

Do you have clay dirt in your yard and nothing will grow? Have plants growing 12 inches from your foundation and want to know why? Do you want to learn ways of being gentler to the environment? What is a rain garden? Learn why you probably do not have clay soil and how to find out what soil type you really have. Learn how to turn your desert into an oasis. The class show how to draw a sketch, basic landscape types, elements of a landscape, how to find soil information, soil improvement, how to do a soil test, mitigating storm water, where to learn about plants, watering techniques, planting problems, how to properly stake a tree, weed control options and the value of organic growing. Sustainable Watering Strategies

This class is designed to raise awareness of homeowners and landscape professionals of the importance of applying water as a finite resource. Learn how to understand plant needs, how to find soil resources and apply common sense in watering. Oregon Landscape Contractor Board approved 2 (CEH) credits.

Vegetable Gardening Done Right

Learn how to start seed, determine soil type and conduct a soil test. Find out how to prepare the soil with what soil amendments, discuss organic and non-organic options. Classes will focus on watering, planting methods; weed control and mulching, harvesting and seed collecting. Oregon Landscape Contractor Board approved 6 (CEH) credits.

Fall and Winter Vegetable Gardening

An advanced class that focuses on developing a sustainable vegetable garden to grow produce for an extended season. Learn the more in depth concepts of planting and timing, weather, crop rotations, cover crops, crop protections and soil preparation. Oregon Landscape Contractor Board approved 6 (CEH) credits.

A layperson's look at the intriguing and fascinating world of fungi and mushrooms. Every organism on earth has a story, fungi's story is one of mystery and stealth layered with folktales and much misinformation. Scientists are only now beginning to unravel the life-giving and life taking role fungi play in our lives. Take a walk through time learning about how fungi work in the environment, its life cycles and its intelligence in reading the environment.
